Israel Tour 2017

SATURDAY OCTOBER 28 - Depart Melbourne for Tel Aviv via Bangkok SUNDAY OCTOBER 29 - Arrive Tel Aviv – After checking into our hotel we will attend the opening ceremony of the Beersheva Centenary Commemorations.

After lunch tour of the city sites including the Jewish History Museum, Independence Hall & the ancient city of Joppa- O/N Tel Aviv (D)

MONDAY OCTOBER 30 - After a good night’s sleep we commence our journey, travelling south to Beersheva via Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, visiting Manger Square & the Church of Nativity, then making time for some great souvenir shopping at Bethlehem’s Three Arches store. On to Navitm where we will follow the route used by the Desert Mounted Corps as they out-flanked the Turkish Gaza-Beersheba line & headed towards Beersheva. We ascend Tel Beer Sheva to see the ground the 4th Australian Light Horse Brigade charged over & also visit Australia Park. Our touring day concludes at the Biblical site of the Well of Abraham. TUESDAY OCTOBER 31 - This morning we will attend the Mounted Parade through the streets of Beersheva, then on to visit the British WW1 Cemetery, where many young ANZACS are buried, for the official Commemoration of the Centenary of the Charge of the 800 Light Horsemen, one of the most strategic & decisive Allied victories of the First World War. In one dramatic hour the Australian Light Horsemen, backed up by the New Zealanders, captured the city and wells of Beersheba. It proved to be one of the most pivotal moments in modern history. After lunch, we will tour the sites occupied by the various Light Horse Regiments & as the day closes we will be present for a re-creation of the Charge of the Light Horsemen. O/N Beersheba. (B-D)

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 1 - Today we make an early start to the “Fountain of Tears” at Arad, an incredible carved monument to the life of Christ. We journey east arriving at the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, for a therapeutic “float” in its medicinal waters. Then on to Masada, & ascend by cable car to Herod’s magnificent summer palace for views of the Dead Sea & Jordan. It is here that the final 2 year siege of the Roman Empire against Israel took place. We continue our journey to Ein Gedi to visit the springs where David hid from King Saul, followed by a stop at Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered in 1947. Heading north along the Jordan Valley we stop at the city of Beit Shean where King Saul’s body was hung on the city gates before arriving at the beautiful Sea of Galilee. O/N Galilee (B-D)

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 2 – Today we explore this Biblically historical area of Galilee. Our traditional sailing vessel will take us across the Sea of Galilee, stopping in the middle for a time of reflection and worship. We disembark at Nof Ginnosar, a kibbutz located on the shores of the Galilee, where we will see the remains of an ancient fishing boat from the time of Jesus. Arriving later to Capernaum, the city of Jesus, we visit the ruins of the synagogue where Jesus performed many miracles and see the new excavations of Peter’s house. We will visit St Peter’s Primacy Church, at the site where Jesus restored Peter after the Resurrection & go on to Tabgha, where Jesus multiplied the loaves & fishes to feed the multitudes. We will see Magdala, the ruins of Bethsaida & later ascend to the Mount of Beatitudes, where we will re-live the teaching of the Sermon on the Mount. We will also get to see the place where Deborah& Barak met before they went to battle. O/N Galilee. (B-D)

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 3 - After breakfast, we travel to the Golan Heights with Mt. Hermon in the background. We will explore Tel Dan & see the remains of Jeroboam’s pagan altar, lunch at Kfar Bloom, then Banias, & Caesarea Philippi, where Peter confessed his faith in Jesus, “You are the Christ, Son of the living God.” We finish our day on the Golan Heights where many miraculous victories were won in the 1967 Six Day War. From here we can look over into Jordan, Lebanon & Syria & begin to understand the geo-political boundaries of the only fully democratic country in the region. Later we visit the Yardenit Baptismal site on the River Jordan. O/N Galilee. (B-D)

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 4 - Early this morning we travel through Cana to Nazareth. We spentime at Nazareth Village recreating village lifestyle in Bible days experiencing the Nazareth Jesus knew! We go to the Church of the Annunciation & the Mount of the Precipice. On our way to Muhraqa & Mount Carmel, where Elijah called down fire from Heaven to defeat the prophets of Baal, we stop at Megiddo, one of King Solomon’s fortress cities, & pass through the Jezreel Valley, scene of the battle of Armageddon. Arriving at the Mediterranean coast we will visit the ancient sea-port of Caesarea, the site of Herod's Palace, home of Cornelius & where Paul was brought to trial. We head south to make our ascent to the beautiful city of Jerusalem. O/N Jerusalem (B-D)

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 5 - Today we enter the Old City of Jerusalem where our Jewish Quarter experience will include the Cardo, prayer at the Western Wall and the Temple Institute. We ascend the Temple Mount to the Dome of the Rock, the site where Abraham offered up Isaac, Solomon built the first Temple and Jesus ministered to the people. We explore the Western Wall Tunnels and view a scale model of the Temple Mount during the time of Herod. Our day ends on Mt Zion at the Upper Room, place of the Last Supper and at Caiaphas’ House. O/N Jerusalem (B-D)

MONDAY NOVEMBER 6 – We have a full day in the Old City, following in the footsteps of Jesus. We visit the Mount of Olives, for an overview of the city, & then descend via Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane. Later, we walk the Via Dolorosa from Lion’s Gate to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, visit the Pools of Bethesda, St. Anne’s Church and the Antonia Fortress. We continue through the busy streets to Christ Church and the Citadel of David Museum at the Jaffa Gate. Tonight, Sound and Light Show at David’s Citadel. O/N Jerusalem (B-D)

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 7 – Today, as we make our way to the City of David archaeological site we will view another magnificent panorama of the Old City from Mt Scopus, making a brief stop at the WW1 War Cemetery. For the slightly more adventurous we will walk along the ancient city walls of Jerusalem getting a bird’s eye view of both the old and modern cities, or if you prefer, re-visit the Citadel of David Museum. In the afternoon we will take Communion at the Garden Tomb, a spiritual oasis in this bustling city & then we are free to explore more of the Old City, go shopping or take a rest. For the really adventurous, an opportunity for underground exploration thro’ Hezekiah's Tunnel exiting at the Pool of Siloam. O/N Jerusalem (B-D)

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 8 – Today we tour Jerusalem passing by the Israeli Knesset to the Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls. We visit the Model City, a quarter acre replica of Jerusalem in Jesus’ time. We continue to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial built in memory of the six million Jews lost in the Holocaust in WW2. Truly a moving experience! This afternoon we visit Magen David Adom, Israel's national disaster, & emergency services. If time permits a visit to Latrun & Abu Ghosh.O/N Jerusalem (B-D)

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 9 - Our last day in the wonderful Land of the Bible & so we will have free time to shop, relax, revisit some of the sights of the Old City, explore something new, pray again at the Western Wall, before sharing our last dinner together prior to being transferred to the airport for our night flight home via Bangkok (B-D)

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 11 - Early morning arrival home, after the most wonderful life-changing experience of our lives.

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 9 - Early morning start to enter Jordan at the Sheik Hussein Crossing. We explore the Roman ruins of Jerash and begin our journey down the King’s Highway to Petra stopping at Bethany beyond the Jordan where Jesus was baptised, Mt Nebo where Moses looked over the Promised Land, & briefly at Madaba. Then on to Petra, one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. O/N (L-D)

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 10 - After breakfast we transfer to Petra where we will be led through the spectacular chasm on horseback with our Nubian guides. You may choose to walk, or ride in a carriage. We will visit the Treasury, Monastery, Roman Theatre, Royal Tombs. Petra is magnificent, a place never to be forgotten. This afternoon we travel back up the King’s Highway and cross back into Israel at the General Allenby Bridge. O/N Jerusalem (B-L-D)

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 11 - Our last day in the wonderful Land of the Bible to spend as we wish, before being transferred to the airport for our late night flight home via Bangkok (B-D)
